Person Centered Counselling

What does counselling involve?

Person centered counselling will give you the opportunity to explore your own thoughts and feelings which surround the difficulties that you are experiences at a time in your life.
Person centered counselling is a non directive process that enables you as the client to talk to an impartial listener in confidence and in a safe welcoming environment. As a Person Centered Counsellor I will encourage you to draw on your own resources working through your difficulties through increased awareness and understanding.

Why Counselling?

There are times in our lives when we may experience distress and we feel pain from outside influences, for example divorce, redundancy, bereavement. These outside influences can cause stress and anxiety resulting in us becoming unwell physically or emotionally. We can struggle to find a solution on our own, or even to make sense of what we are feeling and thinking this is when it helps talk to a counsellor.

As a Person Centered Counsellor I offer the three core conditions to a therapeutic healing process, counselling is not a quick fix to a problem and person centered counselling is not for everyone. The process of person centred counselling hinges on three core components and research shows that when these core conditions are offered then a therapeutic healing process takes place. Person centered counselling is non directive it offers the client the space and time to investigate their own thoughts and feelings in a safe non- judgemental environment.

The core conditions are crucial to the therapeutic healing process the counsellor views the problem from the clients frame of reference meaning that they work with want the client brings to each counselling session with understand, unconditional positive regard and with congruence.

Understanding - The counsellor works completely with the client and understands the client’s perspective.

Unconditional Positive Regard – The counsellor accepts the client and will not judge or reject the clients thinking.

Genuine (Congruence) - The counsellor is transparent and is completely honest.
