Understanding Hypnotherapy

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy combines cognitive behaviour techniques with hypnosis. Using hypnosis will result in a faster process for change. Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis as a tool to by pass the conscious mind creating change from within the sub conscious mind. Only by addressing the unconscious mind can you release old fears, unblocked emotions and remove unwanted beliefs.

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind in which your mind is focused on one thing, what happens is the unconscious mind takes over and you enter a state of relaxation, for example have you every driven home and couldn’t remember anything about the journey, or have you been absorbed in a book or a film and lost track of time? If the answer is yes then you have been in a hypnotic trance. All that hypnosis does is introduce a state of trance instead of waiting for it to occur naturally. Hypnotherapy uses the process of hypnosis in a therapeutic healing way.

What happens during and initial consultation?

During your initial consultation we will discuss why hypnosis, how many session you will need, if I can help, background and history. We will discuss what will happen during your treatment and I will begin to formulate a treatment plan. I will offer you the experience of an induction trance and this will last for about 30 minutes.

The Treatment

Session one we will discuss the treatment plan and agree key words that will make you feel comfortable. It may be that a one off session is sufficient but it may also be that more session are needed this will be discussed during your consultation.

You will then be asked to sit in a comfortable chair or lie on a treatment couch, once you feel comfortable I will begin the induction. The induction is the process used to introduce a state of hypnotic trance and once you have reached a deep level of relaxation I will begin the therapeutic process. At the end of the session I will guide you out of the trance. Most people feel refreshed and alert and find the experience enjoyable, some people will remember and recall part of the induction and the therapeutic process and others just don’t remember.
