| Reiki – what is it ? |
| Reiki is a natural form of hands on healing, dating back from Buddhism and was re -discovered by a Dr Usui Sensei from Japan in 1922. |

| Dr Mikao Usui re-discovered these ancient hands on healing when he took a pilgrimage of meditation and fasting on the holy site of Mount Kori-Yama. Dr Mikao Usui had been searching as a Christian Minister in Kyoto, Japan for the art of healing. He could not find the answers in Kyoto so he travelled to the United States of America where he studied Theology, but he still did not find the answers to his questions. So he returned to Japan to study Buddhism, he settled in a Zen Buddhist Monastery in Kyoto Japan studying the Sutras. Still searching for answers he decided to undergo three weeks of fasting and meditation on the holy site of Mount Kori-Yama where he asked for guidance. It was during this three week pilgrimage that he re- discovered hands on healing, on the 21st day of his fast he saw a beam of light moving faster and faster toward him, this light struck him between his eyebrows and he became unconscious, whilst in this state he saw coloured lights and symbols being imprinted between his eyebrows in white and gold. As each symbol appeared he was told how to use them. When he returned to full consciousness and opened his eyes it was daylight and the middle of the next day. He returned to the monastery to find he could heal people by using the gift he had received. |
| Dr Mikao Usui taught Dr Chujiro Hayashi the symbols and healing technique which have then been passed from Reiki Master to Reiki Master. Only people attunded by a Reiki Master can heal using Dr Mikao Usui method and this method is handed down through the direct lineage of Dr Mikao Usui. |

| ‘Rei’ Means Universal Wisdom |
| ‘Ki’ Means Universal Energy |

| ‘Hands on Healing’ is not new; it is the oldest form of healing. Think back to when you were a child did you hurt yourself by falling over? What did your mother do?
Mothers instinctively rub and kiss a child better, this is healing. Mothers are giving their personal ‘Ki’ and love to their child. As an adult if you hurt yourself what do you do? You rub where it hurts and the pain goes away.

| Every cell of your body, and every living thing, vibrates energy that we call Ki, Chi, Prana, Bioplasma, or the Life Force. It is this energy that heals. Each and every person has the ability to heal themselves and Reiki through a Reiki healer allows the healing process to begin. |

| The Reiki healer is a channel and through this channel universal life energy is passed from the healer to the recipient bringing about an empowerment and a recharging of cells within the body. As we get older we need to recharge our energy levels so that the cells in our body can continue to support life in just the same as when a car battery goes flat we charge up the battery from an external source and this is also what happens in a Reiki treatment. |

| Quite simply, a Reiki treatment is a unique way of channelling energy, recharging ones own battery by creating harmony, balance and 'Inner Peace' |
| ‘Reiki is positive energy, love and light’ |

| How does it work? |
| You heal yourself by making new cells. The body is made up of cells and if the cell is low in Ki energy, then the body will be ‘out of balance’ so by energising the cell it will replace the old unwell cell and you will begin to feel balanced and energised. Reiki knows where in the body the energy is needed and positive feelings and thoughts also enhance the negative imbalance of the Ki energy. For example a person who is experiencing depression will receive Ki energy to the Pituity and Pineal glands allowing the gland to produce the correct level of serotonin and melatonin, resulting in the person feeling well. Reiki is not a quick fix method of healing it is an accumulative method and may take time for the recipient to feel fully energised. |
